Whole cloves have a pungent and spicy aroma. They are used in rice dishes such as Pulao and Biryani, in meat dishes, in gravies and sweet dishes including cakes and cookies. You need to use just a few cloves, as they have a strong flavor. Clove powder is rarely used on its own, but is powdered along with other spices into garam masala and many spice blends. Cloves are known for their oral health benefits, for tooth pain and for fresh breath. So the whole cloves are also used to put/bind a paan together. If you find yourself to be having a lot of cloves, you can place them in your cabinets, rice and flour bags to prevent worms. At home we also use them in our wardrobe.
Cloves are used in the cuisine of Asian, African, Mediterranean, and the Near and Middle East countries lending flavour to curries. Cloves may be used to give aromatic and flavour qualities to hot beverages, often combined with other ingredients such as lemon and sugar. They are a common element in spice blends.
Clove is used for upset stomach and as an expectorant. Expectorants make it easter to cough up phlegn. Clove oil is used for diarrhea, hernia, and bad breath. Clove and clove oil are used for intestinal gas, nausea, ard vomiting. Clove is applied directly to the gums (used topically) for foothache, for pain control during dental work. It is also applied to the skin as an aid for ain and for mouth and throat inflammation. In manufacturing clove is used in toothpaste. soaps, cornetics, perfumes.
Clove grows well in fertile loamy soils of the humid tropics and can be grown successfully in the red soils of the Midlands of Kerala as well as in the hilly terrain of Western Ghats at higher elevatims in Tarnil Nadu and Karnataka. A cooler climate with well-distributed rainfall in ideal for clove cultivation.
